Gravity

The International Space Station and a Space Shuttle in low Earth orbit, a shot loosely inspired by the film Gravity.
I wanted to create a realistic scene with a somewhat cinematic look, using detailed models and maps.
The scene is indeed two scenes, as I built the Earth in Terragen and used Blender for the models. The two rendered images were subsequently composed in Photoshop. This approach was necessary, as Terragen had issues in loading the models, with the mesh undergoing some unexpected deformation at render time, despite no displacement being applied.
For the Earth, I used high resolution textures from Nasa: color, roughness, height and lights.
